Here at Visionskape we are in the business of Personal Development. People have titled it many things, be that self-help, self-improvement, positive thinking and even law of attraction although that’s more of a tool than an end in itself. However, we like to think that what we do here at Visionskape is help people to become great, help them to become the men and women they were meant to and have the ability to be; but in that pursuit we must never forget the men and women who have fought for every human’s right to do just that.
Today schools are off and many establishments are closed as we celebrate the life of a different kind of great man. This man sought not to gain for himself. He did not seek fame though it was thrust upon him. He also did not seek persecution though he was born into it. Martin Luther King Jr. sought the hallowed ends of freedom and justice. The greatness which he achieved was not for the sake of bettering his own life but rather the lives of all Americans regardless of race. Through his words and deeds he inspired a nation to a higher level of morality, a higher level of understanding that we are all connected and so in mistreating any human being we are doing an injustice to all.
In front of the lincoln memorial in 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of a dream that he had. Of a dream that, despite insurmountable opposition from the forces of injustice and bigotry has come true. The road before us is still long and still winding, we have not yet reached the promise land of complete acceptance and love that MLK Jr stood, spoke, lived and died for. Today we honor a great man who needed no help becoming great. A man who followed the utmost calling of his heart and became a powerhouse of justice and a beacon light of hope for all those suffering from the perturbation of that justice both then and now. We have come a long way since that day in August of 1963, but we must never forget that MLK Jr. stood for the freedom of all people. So in that spirit of remembrance we include the audio of that famous, awe-inspiring speech; that it might inspire all of us to a higher level of gratitude for what we have, hope for what is coming, and respect for those who made it possible.
